Decisions, decisions...

I hate insurance.

I met with a general surgeon yesterday after having the ultrasound done on my gallbladder. It seems that I have a small polyp or stone, so he wants to proceed with the functioning test...yuck. Depending on the results of that, if the gallbladder is functioning, I will be sent for a test where they put a camera in my stomach, or if it isn't, I will have surgery. It has all been put into fast forward though as our insurance is changing May first to a different company and they have a one year wait limit on preexisting things. So everything has to be done by May 1 or I have to wait a year.

As I was reading the booklet from BCBS it also has a 365 waiting period in which it won't cover maternity... We had planned on getting preggers later this year, but now have to wait until May 2010. That means Addie would be 3 1/2 years older than her sibling... Not what I really wanted. So Jarom has the option to pay for his current insurance until whenever we decide to switch OR to switch now and it be free monthly. The thing is, the insurance we are on already has a HUGE $3300 deductible before it covers ANYTHING. So already this year we've racked up over $2000 in bills. Too bad you can't have a baby in 8 months so that we'd only have to meet one year of deductibles if I got preggs now. So the dilemma is to keep paying for insurance that barely covers anything so that we can have a baby in our timeline or to just wait and still pay about $4000 with the new insurance. Did I mention I hate small business insurance??? Also did I mention I am SO not wanting to be preggers anytime soon?

I hate making big decisions. Time to pray I suppose.

That is lame. You may check with the new insurance...I came across that problem before but because I never had a lapse in insurance they covered it. Even though the insurance company was completely different. Just a thought

I have to second Ashley. Pre-existing conditions don't count if you are changing insurance companies and there is no lapse in coverage. So your gallbladder will be better off with the new insurance...go for it. I had the HIDA (sp) scan last year and they billed my insurance for over 10,000dollars for a 45 minute test. Now the maternity is another question. I would call the insurance providers and question what that 365 waiting period means exactly. I'm sorry about the gallbladder. I hope you get feeling better soon!

Ok, I will third Ashely and Mary. Sounds like the current insurance isn't fabulous with that monster deductible anyway. And I also had that deal about the possible "lapse" when I switched from mine to Matt's and had a surgery like right in the middle of it all and everything was covered. They shouldn't consider it a lapse at all. And, of course, you'll do what you feel is right regarding the insurance and regarding when you should get pregnant. Good luck!! xo!

Well, if it's any help, Chase and Davis are 3 1/2 years apart and I think it is perfect. I thought at first that there was going to be too much of a gap, but I think it really is awesome. They have already started "playing" together and I don't think I would have them any closer. It makes it so much nicer because Chase is older and more able to do what he needs to do while I tend to Davis. I know that they'll be close growing up. I seriosly wouldn't have it any other way.

Insurance is so frustrating. Don't even get me started. I hope they aren't lamos and you can have you surgery and baby whenever you want. And that is a huge deductible. Terrible. Good luck with it all!
